Trumpty Dumpty and his wall

By Robert J. Garrison

Everyone knows about Humpty Dumpty and how he fell off a wall. Last week this almost happened to GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump. During a Sean Hannity special, Trump appeared to soften his stance on immigration when he suggested those illegal immigrants who were law-abiding could stay if they paid back taxes. This set off a firestorm of criticism from his supporters because it was a softening of Trumps stance from earlier in the GOP primaries.

This balloon trail of amnesty that Trump sent up last week, was not only a softening of his stance but it was the stance of Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio, which Trump had been constantly attacking during the primaries. The following week Trump made an immigration policy speech that was the same hard-line nationalistic stance that he held during the primaries: build the wall, deport those who are here illegally, and protect citizens from the criminal element that is crossing the border.

What’s so hypocritical about this story is that the media and the political pundits have blasted Trump for his hard-line on immigration. They have called for him to change his tone and rhetoric about immigration. But when he does, they attack him for being a flip-flopper. An example of this would be Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough.

For months Joe has been calling on Trump to change his stance on immigration if he wants to win the election. Then when Trump does, Joe attacks him and calls him, Amnesty Don. Not only that but the MSNBC morning host released a song mocking Trump’s apparent flip-flopping.

The word on the street is the once friendly relationship between the Morning Joe crew and Donald Trump has now soured, and it is spiraling into a personal feud. And it’s a petty feud that does nothing to educate the public about the issues. This feud is just another example of the media trying to make a point not by facts but by attacking.

Here I must pause and call out not only Joe Scarborough but the rest of the media for their attacks on Trump’s stance and the half-truths they are propagating.

Trump’s a racist

First, the media goes after Donald Trump for being a “racist” for his strong stance on immigration. First, the term racist has been used by the media as a tactic to silence people when they take a stance that goes against the liberal slant. The term is being so over used that it is becoming a less effective tactic to shut down debate and dialog. Also, it’s not racist to call on the federal government to enforce the laws that are on the books. The U.S. is a country based on the rule of law. However, the rule of law is being undermined by “sanctuary cities” that offer a place for illegal immigrants and where the immigration laws are not being enforced. How can one get a grip on the illegal immigration problem when cities are not enforcing immigration laws they are supposed to be enforced?

Second, the anchor baby myth. This myth has been so contorted and twisted that it’s barely recognizable anymore. Many have the false interpretation of the law that if they can cross the border and have their baby in America, that their child will automatically will be a U.S. citizen. Andy Semotiuk, who is a U.S. and Canadian Immigration lawyer wrote an article for Forbes about this myth:

You may not be aware that the mere birth of a child in North America does not guarantee the child nor their parents the right to live in the United States or Canada, at least not until the child reaches the age of majority. Put another way, the family can be and often is removed from the U.S. or Canada, even if they have a native-born child, because they do not have lawful status in the country.

Of course this doesn’t stop those from distorting this myth by using the line “we can’t separate families” for a reason why we can’t deport the 11 illegal immigrants that are here in the U.S.. According to the law, families wouldn’t be separated!

Trump is Hitler

Next, I want to address the far lefts attack of trying to link Donald Trump’s immigration plan with that of Adolf Hitler and the Nazis. This attempt to connect Hitler’s anti-Semitic laws to Trump’s immigration plan just smacks of hyperbole. Of course the lack of historical knowledge by the public or their laziness not to research issues makes this a label that can stick. However, Hitler ran on the stance of revoking Jews of their German citizenship and deporting them out of the country. Donald Trump has never, to my knowledge, threaten to revoke anyone’s citizenship and deport them out of the U.S. So once again, the main stream media (MSM), and the far left use a falsehood as a fact.

Then the MSM and the left scream that Donald Trump’s calls for deportation would be like the Nazi’s SS going around checking people’s papers and deporting them. However, whether or not Trump, MSM, or the left know, the U.S. does have a law forcement agency that checks people’s papers and deports them. It’s called U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE. And they’re not the SS.

Trump’s Not being Presidential

One of the biggest criticisms about Trump is his lack of acting presidential. He constantly gets blasted by the media and the Hillary campaign about his use of language, his insults, and his demagoguery, which is within reason and I for the most part agree with. Yet when he does things that are presidential he gets accused of doing a photo-op.

A couple of examples of this would be Trump’s trip to Baton Rouge, LA to visit the flood victims. Trump took time off from a close presidential campaign to met with people effected by the flooding, donated money, and handed out supplies to the victims. In fact, the Governor of Louisiana, John Bel Edwards, was against Trump coming at first, but later went on to thank him for coming. In a CNN interview, Governor Edwards defended Trump against the media attacks and called the visit “helpful”. What did Hillary do in response? Nothing! she didn’t even visit Baton Rouge and President Obama didn’t go there until his vacation was over!

Then Mexico’s President Enrique Peña Nieto invited both presidential candidates to come to Mexico to sit and talk about issues between the two countries. Donald Trump acting in a presidential manner, accepted the invite and went down to met with President Nieto and took questions from the Mexican press. Hillary Clinton hasn’t accepted the invitation yet.

So MSM, which is it? Do you want Trump to act presidential? Or do you want him to act in a bombastic way? Stop being hypocritical and just report the news.

However, secretly the media is grateful for Trump and his bombastic positions since it drives ratings and profits. The biggest ratings grabber is Trump’s wall.

THE WALL

Conservatives have been pushing for a shoring up of the southern border since the 1980’s. They have been burned multiple times by immigration bills that promised to strengthen the border, only to be left holding the bag when it didn’t happen. Due to that, they have demanded that the border be addressed first before any new immigration policy passed. This is a reasonable demand and despite the medias opinion, it is not racist to want to protect ones borders.

Well Trump’s speech Wednesday night was just the red meat that the conservatives wanted to hear. They wanted border enforcement and a wall, and that is exactly want Trump gave them Wednesday night in Arizona.

However, the immigration debate is more than just whether we build a wall or who will pay for it; it’s about the borders of sovereign nations. Borders have been long under attack by the globalist that are pushing for their removal not just here in the U.S., but also worldwide. The globalist elite have been trying their best to erase borders through trade deals, reform of laws, and outright non-enforcement of immigration laws.

Trump is right about one thing, the issue of immigration would not be an issue or would it be talked about as much if he didn’t make it an issue. Trump, who is shown to be media savvy is using all his skill to fight not just against his opponent Hillary Clinton, but the media’s bias as well.
